Being born as a human being and a social person, it is our duty to bestow something to the next generation that they will proudly remember us for.
Whatever we do today with ourselves or in our surroundings will be definitely borne by the upcoming generations. By adopting a positive attitude we can benefit our future generations. But if we do it negatively, they will have to bear the brunt of it for sure. It is truly said that “As you sow so shall you reap”.
The most pressing issue that I can foresee in the next 15-20 years is ‘pollution’. We do not care about the pace of improving our environment as we should do, as compared to the pace at which we are doing industrial development. We are continuously destroying our green forests just to replace it with a concrete one. Air-water-land pollution is rampant in every corner of the world. No place is spared from its horrific clutches. If we don’t take some definite measures for this cause then the next generation will be crushed in this flood undoubtedly. If we do not take any action today, our children will suffer the consequences.
There are various types of pollution, but the one which is building up due to single use plastic is increasing dangerously since it is a substance that is so useful that which has become inevitable in our day to day life. To give plastic strength and flexibility chemicals are added that are harmful to well-being of a living organism. Not only it endangers our health but also plastic does not decompose naturally after use. It lasts for years in the form of garbage. Man-made hills of garbage have become innate around big cities in which 70 to 80% is plastic waste.
Plastics as such are polluting the soil and reduce the production and quality of farm commodities. Not only that the process of artificially decomposing plastics also causes extreme air pollution. Thinking
about the effects on sea is unimaginable. So much plastic waste is dumped in sea that they have become islands in the oceans. Marine flora and fauna are becoming their innocent prey.
We know and understand about everything that is happening. But human selfishness prevent us from doing something about it. What can I do alone? How can I bring any changes by myself? – Such baseless thoughts make us weak. All great revolutions begin with one man and grows to several as the link develops. Currently it seems that a world revolution is the sole solution to eradicate this mess .
The Gajera Trust understands the seriousness of this fact and takes the initiative to control the use of plastics. All schools, colleges and other institutions run by the Gajera Trust are committed to become free from single use plastics in the coming year. All those associated with the trust will be giving up single use plastics by the next year. Our resolve is that by July 7, 2022, next year the organizations of the Gajera Trust, the people associated with it and the environment around them will be plastic free.
Come, join us in this great campaign. Let us all work together to create a beautiful world to live for which we can be proud of.
